Our tutors and staff in Wichita consist of passionate educators who love inspiring children to succeed. Warm, caring and great at relating to kids, our tutors in Wichita know how to engage and motivate each child in a personal way—building confidence and smiles, as well as skills and better scores. We selectively choose tutors who know local curriculum and can link Sylvan lessons to what’s being taught in school.

Hazel Darrow

Director
HAZEL received her B.A. from Southwestern College in Elementary Education. She has an M.A. in Christian Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Her experience in education includes teaching at both the elementary and collegiate levels. She has been with Sylvan for over 15 years. Hazel loves music and reading. She has three children and four grandchildren.
Susie Hill
Teacher
SUSIE has thirty-four years in the teaching profession in early childhood, elementary and middle school. She once owned a tutoring and testing business to identify and remediate special education needs. Susie received her B.S. from Kansas University and a M.A. from Wichita State University. She has three children and seven grandchildren and a terrier mix dog. Her hobbies include flower gardening and bird watching. Some day she would love to have lakefront property and live on the lake.
Erica Olson
Teacher
ERICA earned her BA in Communication from Wichita State University in 2002. She spent almost a decade as a journalist, writing for the Ellsworth County Independent Reporter and the Wichita Eagle, and finally worked as a radio news anchor for KFDI News before leaving the workforce to be a stay-at-home mom, during which time she homeschooled her son. She worked as a Reading Support Paraprofessional at the elementary level before joining Sylvan, and now works full time as an instructional support paraprofessional at a middle school.
Tonia Benoist
Teacher
TONIA Benoist has been with Sylvan Learning Centers for 5 years. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in French, and taught French at Wichita Public Schools before moving to France where she taught English as well. In addition to tutoring at Sylvan, Tonia currently works with English Language Learners in USD259. She and her husband, Jean-Francois, have a combined family including six grown children and five grand-children.
